点评:Situated very close to Amber Fort, this stunning stepwell dates from the 16th century—or the 10th, it’s not very clear when. Stories abound about who had it constructed; some believe that it was constructed by a 10th century Meena king named Panna; others say that a eunuch named Panna Miah, who was a courtesan much favoured by one of the rulers of Jaipur was responsible for it.
The stepwell goes down to a depth of 200 metres, the water beneath being approached by eight levels of steps that descend in an intricate (and geometrically perfect) crisscross pattern. There are some picturesque domed pavilions around, but that’s it. You can be in and out of this place within ten minutes, even if you roam around a while and see it from various angles. Note that descending the steps is forbidden for reasons of safety. Also, there are a lot of langurs around; take care.
No entry fee is charged for Panna Meena ka Kund.
