点评:We decided to visit the Jackson home during the first day of Mayor Eddie Melton’s two-day 2300 Jackson Block party, held on Michael Jackson’s birthday. It was a good day to be surrounded by fellow fans of all ages and backgrounds, and interesting MJ impersonators.
The event was held on the grounds of Roosevelt High School, with plenty of free parking on the fenced, grassy field across the street, lots of security, food and merch tents, a kids’ play zone, music, and performances.
The Jackson home is literally steps from the football field, it’s a small starter home like all others surrounding it, on a fenced, 40’ wide lot. The tricolor beech, Japanese Maple, Magnolia and clipped boxwood hedges are newer additions— but an old juniper next to the front door is the real charmer— I’m sure it was around when the family lived there.
The home and the one next to it at 2306 was opened to special guests only that day, and the mayor held a press conference on the front lawn. He and other officials spoke of Gary’s significance not just because of its steel mills but its homegrown talent like the world-renowned Jackson brothers, Michael, and Deniece Williams. The mayor gave inspiring messages of revitalizing the community and bringing Gary back.
Special surprise guest appearances by brothers Jackie and Marlon and Deniece Williams were a treat.
