Weardale Railway的点评
点评：I travelled to the Weardale Railway on the Uk Railtours charter train and it was a very enjoyable journey along the line. We had the luxury of travelling on an Inter City 125 to the line and passed from the Network Rail tracks onto the Weardale Railway at Bishop Auckland where we trundled along the line up the Wear Valley.
The line is really pretty and if you like nice scenery then this is worth doing if you are in the area. It was lovely that people had turned out at various locations along the line to see the train go past. Let's face it, it's very rare for a train like that to travel anywhere nowadays.
We arrived at Wolsingham where lots of people got off and although it is a small station there were facilities available including a portable toilet for those who needed it and a small stand selling cold drinks and snacks as well as Weardale Railway branded souvenirs.
From here we got to change trains and travel behind an even older diesel. A class 31 was available at either end of a rake of Mark III carriages to take us to the depot and then onto Stanhope. I have not travelled behind a class 31 in a number of years so it was a special treat for me.
With a break of about 1.5 hours I had time to wander around the station and into the village to explore before returning to the station to browse the gift shop and get some souvenirs and get some refreshments from the small cafe which was doing a roaring trade from the people who had come on the train.
Soon it was time to depart and our train took us back down the valley and once again there were lots of people out to see us go past. The line is never too far from the River Wear and we crossed a number of villages as we meandered East back to Bishop Auckland and then home.
The staff I met were all very professional, friendly and pleased to have us vist.
