点评:This review is more than just a review of the Lago, but of my visit to Lugano itself. I'd been to Switzerland before, but never stayed in this breathtaking city. I scheduled the train from Lucerne, which took us through a long tunnel. When it emerged, it was like I had entered Oz. There were palm trees lining the lake. Built on a steep hill, the streets meander as medieval ones often do. Being an American male who isn't fond of shopping, and thus lacking any discernment, the shops appeared upscale and leaving me wondering how many Swiss watches does one need to own (said the guy who wears a cheap Timex). I happened to be here on a Saturday when Migros, the supermarket chain, was sponsoring a half marathon, 5K runs, fun runs, kid runs, etc. all weekend. The streets were lined with runners and those cheering them on. There were brass bands, food vendors, and more. It was joyous. Is Lugano worth visiting? I'd say yes, if only to experience the Swiss flavor of Italian. At times, I forgot which country I was in. [Traveler's note: if walking the hills is difficult and you need to head uphill, say, towards the train station, look for the funicular that heads straight into the station itself. The Swiss really do public transportation well.]
