点评:I was going between Des Moines and Lincoln and heard about the Freedom Rock in Menlo, just off I-80. Well worth the side trip. My understanding is this is the original that Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II, paints (and repaints this one each year in time for Memorial Day, so it will look different every June. After I got home and did research on this I found that there are 100 in Iowa, one in each county, and 22 across the midwest (actually one in Washington state). If you are in the area (and if you're in Des Moines you are close enough) go visit this. Number one it is an amazing work of art, pictures don't do it justice; standing by it you realize how big it is. Number two it is really an amazing experience. To look at the images and realize the amount of work and dedication it took to do this, understanding that one man is doing this. Number three it reminds you of the sacrifices made to keep us free and safe and the sacrifice that many in the military have made. Humbling to say the least. I was there with a couple of others that stopped in and I noticed that we all talked to each other in whispered tones. Middle of Iowa, miles from any city but we were very reverent.
