点评:The Tourist Office is the best starting point for exploring St Emilion. It is centrally located right next to the St Emilion bell-tower, making it easy to find. It’s a large and well-organised centre and is very well-stocked with information.
There are several staff there to assist and they spoke both French and English.
Unfortunately when we were there, they didn’t have any town maps to hand out. This would have been very helpful as the cobbled streets can be a little labyrinth like. However one of the staff showed me a folder with walks around the area and I was able to take photos of the maps.
The best non-wine activities we did in St Emilion were organised through the Tourist Office. Access to the underground monolithic church, St Emilion's hermit cave, and the catacombs is all organised through the Tourist Office. We did a fascinating tour with a Tourist Office guide.
They also hold the key to the bell-tower. Climbing the 200 odd steps to the top of the tower was a little daunting but it was well worth it for the 360 degree views over the village and surrounding area. We had to leave a passport with them as security for the tower key so make sure you bring your with you (or some similar ID).
