Forest Trek to wonderful formal gardens, with vital tips for visitors.

点评：At the end of a single track road and after several stops in the few small passing places, we arrived at the gardens car park and tea rooms. A map in the car park displayed several different coloured routes through the gardens. We declined to purchase a map and was advised to start at the small bridge over a stream, next to the ticket office. We photographed the map, thinking this would be sufficient to find our way. The path was uphill all the way and we stepped carefully over the constant tree roots. We were in a dense forest. We expected some coloured markers in line with the map, but sadly there were none. We pressed on up hill for about 25 minutes before taking a left which we thought would lead to the formal gardens. It seems we took a left a little too early, but seeing a nicely trimmed hedge, we headed uphill through a grass meadow to reach the area. The Hall was surrounded by fantastic gardens, with spectacular views, which made the hike all worthwhile. We didn't have any details about the Hall but on the entrance door were details showing it belonged to the Diocese of Leeds and that it was a spiritual retreat. At the entrance was a car park. We followed the road a little way to see another car park with various people getting in and out of their cars. Looking back along the road, we could see that it led to where we had parked our car. It suddenly dawned on us that if we had carried on driving past the "Gardens Car Park", we could have avoided the jungle trek and also the £10 per head fees. A final note, getting to this location is not for the faint hearted driver.
