点评:A truly peaceful expanse of Grade 2 listed gardens and parkland (160 acres to be precise!) and min-lake, in which to lose oneself, is offered by the Grade 1 listed Cyfarthfa Castle (itself a museum with a small entrance fee). A great space for an hour, or a whole day - bring a picnic lunch to make the most of this beautiful location.
The Castle was originally built in 1825 for William Crayshaw (whom owned some of the most lucrative iron works in the area during the 1800's) and his family. It was converted into a museum and art gallery, and also housed a school on the upper floors after the Crawshay family vacated the premises in the late 19th century. Although the school closed in 2014, the museum and art gallery remain, and are worth a visit - to find out more about the history of this lovely building, and also learn more about the events that helped shaped the area, especially during the industrial revolution.
Ensure to check ahead of your visit to ensure that Castle is open (i.e the museum is closed on Mondays and bank holidays during the winter season with limited opening during the Christmas holidays).
