Discovering the Rundle Mall Sculptures…
The Mall's Balls Statue的点评
点评：Like most visitors to Adelaide, we strolled through Rundle Mall, the city’s main shopping centre. We were not much interested in shopping but its a nice mall, with several striking sculptures and often street performers too.
The Malls Balls is the most eye-catching of all the sculptures in Rundle Mall. What you see here is a 4 metre tall sculpture consisting of two massive, shiny and highly reflective stainless steel balls, one on top of the other.
Sadly, its not really called The Malls Balls. I wish it was. Instead, its official name is the much less colourful, 'The Spheres’.
For kids the sculpture is a bit like a carnival Hall of Mirrors. The shiny polished steel surfaces capture images in all directions and they can run freely around it, enjoying their own distorted reflections.
It makes a good photograph too, as the length of Rundle Mall gets doubly reflected in each of the balls.
It is the work of the international artist, Bert Flugelman. A similarly shiny work by Flugelman stands in the Sydney CBD as a memorial to William Dobell. Another, ‘Cones’ is in the Sculpture Garden at the National Art Gallery in Canberra.
