BEAUTIFUL Abbey Ruins - Weird parking gate

点评：Roche Abbey (accessed by a cobblestone drive!) - a lovely Cistercian ruin in a lovely, remote setting. We found a bench and picnicked there before roaming the massive ruins. (Side note as a parking warning to others: there was a sign near where we had parked that said that the gate would lock at a certain time. I assumed it was the gate right where the sign was—at the entrance to the ruins, so the cars would still be outside that, so I didn't worry about it. However, as we left, and went back up the cobblestone road, at the top there was a large gate that was indeed closed! There was a sign on it that said, “Drive forward slowly and the gate will open for you; but we take pictures of registration plates and if you are a repeat offender, there will be penalties.” Phew! So be warned, leave the site before that gate closes!)
