Non-EU Citizens MUST AVOID THIS AIRPORT

点评：This airport has become an absolute disgrace for non-schengen arrivals. It used to be a small, convenient, "no thrills" place that served its purpose. Since the new EU entry checks were introduced in January 2026, it has become a nightmare.
You get off your flight and are forced to queue for literally 2-3 hours to clear passport control (something that used to take 30 mins). I had to wait in line longer for passport control than my actual flight took!
None of the new fingerprint / face scanning machines are in use for some inexplicable reason, so literally 1000s of passengers are being processed by 4-5 passport control officers manually.
The staff don't care at all, and in fact seemed to delight in telling us that the wait time was minimum 2 hours when we joined the queue. Zero consideration for the elderly or children as there are no seats. There were 2x classes worth of school kids in front of us who were clearly suffering.
This is clearly a failure of the airport itself, because when I flew to Rome last month I had zero issues using the new EU entry process.
Why do countries like the UK continue to allow EU citizens to use our convenient eGates process and yet our citizens are forced to queue for hours at European airports. It was the same at Basel-Mulhouse-Friebourg airport last month.
Do NOT come to this airport until they fix it. I cannot imagine how much chaos this will be during the peak summer holiday period.
