点评:I booked the 4-day Adventurer ride with Anchor D based on a recommendation from a FB group. I have always wanted to ride into the Rockies on horseback. Well, now I can say that I've done that. But that's about all.
Anchor D is seriously lacking in hospitality and customer service.
My trip included 6 women ages from mid-50's to mid-60's with various levels of riding experience.
I arrived early on the morning of the trip. I wanted to leave plenty of time in case I got lost. Vic and Dewey (owner) were friendly enough. But Rebecca (office manager) barely spoke. Didn't greet me when I walked into the office. Was rather curt in speaking to me. At the time I figured maybe she was just having a bad day. But it turned out that most of the people involved were rather standoffish.
Our wranglers, Daniela and Juliana, were two women late 20's to mid-30's. They were polite, and friendly enough when one of the guests spoke to them, but they made zero effort to engage the guests. When we stopped for lunch, the guests sat together to get to know each other and chat, but the two wranglers went off by themselves and didn't bother with the guests. I would have expected the wranglers to engage the guests but they didn't. It was as though they weren't being paid for their lunch hour so they didn't bother with us. Gradually, towards the end of day two, Juliana became a bit more friendly and forthcoming as we were riding the trails.
I had been told we would ride for 4 to 6 hours per day, but it was more like 8 hours for the first three days. And in that 8+ hours we were only allowed to get off our horses for lunch. There were no breaks to give the horses and riders a break or to stretch our legs etc. Although they did allow the horses to stop and drink at the rivers we crossed. The riders could have used a break now and then too.
The wranglers were also somewhat cagy about where we would be riding and for how long. It seemed as though they didn't want to tell us that these would be 8+ hour days. They could have given us a description of what our days would look like. Or shown us on a map where we would be going and what we would see. But there was none of this and no attempt to generate enthusiasm for the next day's ride.
The food was adequate. Breakfasts and dinners were hot meals. And no, neither the wranglers nor the cook, Francesca, (also around the same age group) joined us for any of these meals either. Lunches each day were a cold cut sandwich, a rice crispy square or a brownie, and an apple.
Also, my horse Pickles's saddle kept slipping off to the left side and I had to keep putting all my weight in the right stirrup and tugging the horn to get the saddle back on straight. The wrangler said it was because the horse was so round that no matter how tight her girth was, the saddle kept slipping. I had never heard of that before. And I was pretty tired of either correcting the saddle, or riding cockeyed, by the end of the 2nd day.
I ended up not riding out on the 3rd day but chose to stay back at the camp to relax. I decided I was not up to 8+ hours in the saddle. I had already seen and photographed some spectacular views, but decided that the price of 8 hours in the saddle, being brushed up against trees and mostly just looking at forests was not worth the price for one or two more spectacular views. I did not see hide nor hair of our cook while I spent the day at camp. But my packed lunch showed up in my lawn chair while I was away from the campfire area for a few minutes.
Another guest rode Pickles on the 3rd day and had the same problem with the saddle slipping to the left. On the 4th day they brought out a different horse and took Pickles back to the ranch. The wranglers said it was because of a problem with a shoe. Maybe. Or maybe they finally decided it wasn't good to put guests on a horse who's saddle wouldn't stay on straight.
Francesca also had brought a guitar with her and had said she was going to play for us on the last night. That didn't happen. We guests waited by the fire but Francesca just did the after dinner clean-up and that was the last we saw of her. And we were all exhausted from riding so we went off to bed. Maybe Francesca was still planning to play for us, and had she said so we would have stayed up for that. But again there was no communication
The biggest negative overall was the lack of any effort made to enhance the experience of the quests. The ranch basically did what they advertised, provided horses, meals, and tents, but just that and not one iota more.
I might have come away from this experience thinking that this is what a horseback riding adventure was always like, but two of the women in our group had ridden these types of 4 or 5 day trips out of other ranches and described a much different and better experience. Friendlier staff, better meals, better views, breaks from riding during the day, etc. etc.
This was always going to be a one-off for me since I'm 66 years old. So I won't be returning to Anchor D, or anywhere else. But if you're thinking of doing a trip like this I would suggest doing your research and booking with a different ranch.
Anchor D
Vic 和 Dewey(老板)很友好。但 Rebecca(办公室经理)几乎不说话。
牧马人和厨师 Francesca(年龄也差不多)都没有和我们一起吃这些饭。
