点评：Less than one hour from Manhatten via MetroNorth transit is one of the most enchanting gardens along the Hudson, The Untermyer Gardens and Estate, and it's free! The garden was originally created by Samuel Untermyer back in 1899 when the estate was purchased from the former governor of New York, Samuel Tilden. Over the years the garden had been expanded to over 150 acres but is now comfortably cultivated over 43 acres with at least 11 full time gardeners maintaining the property year round. You can visit the garden seasonally as each of the four season presents its own variety of flora. We went this year in the spring when cherry trees, daffodils, pansies and hyacinths were all in full bloom. To avoid crowds, I'd recommend early in the morning, or late in the afternoon (hours will vary but 9:00 AM has been a consistent opening time; and depending on the season, closing hours will be from 4:30 - 7:00 PM). Allowing at least 2 hours should provide you sufficient time to walk the entire estate, relax by the Persian Pool and Temple of the Sky, plus find time to hike to the Temple of Love with stunning views toward the Jersey Palisades as well as wall to wall daffodils which seem to blanket every possible piece of lawn. Several trails lead away from the Estate taking you further into the surrounding woodlands where you can relax and listen to nature's songbook. Available upon entering is a handly Self-Guided Tour brochure highlighting all the major sites of this garden.
