Oh c’mon MN DNR… Everything is online so you can’t buy a one day park permit from someone in the office (if they had been open). Next to the emergency phone box (that is out of order) is a sign with a QR code so you can buy your park pass. There’s no cell signal here (at least for Verizon). The QR code couldn’t give the website because there was no signal. So we were talking to a game warden who suggested we go to the top of a hill for service. When we did this MN DNR requires you to login to their website - you can’t just purchase a permit for 1 day. So, we didn’t get the permit purchased because I didn’t bring the login info with me when we went to the top of the hill. Want people to comply with the rules? Make it easier to do business.
The museum was closed when we drove by. It was too hot to get out and read signs.
On a weekday, the campground was really quiet - only three sites occupied including the camp host. The campground is clean and well mowed. The sites are well shaded.
The electric is only 30 amp - which meant we don’t have enough power for the 2 AC units in our camper. Drinking water is available.
We had hoped to fish in the creek, but it was barely running at a trickle. We had also looked forward to hiking, but with temps in the 100s, we decided to skip that. The signs say you should access trail info online because changes have been made to the map and the one on the sign is not up to date. There is a corn hole setup in the camp. The old shower house, that required a hike up a hill, is closed and being overgrown by trees and brush.
The new shower house is impressive and handicap accessible but not open when we visited. There’s a tiny library made out of a tree stump.
There doesn’t seem to be a place to dump gray and black water. If the weather had been cooler and there was water in the stream, this would be a fun place to camp. Also, while some find it relaxing to go to places without cell service, it produces anxiety for some of us so some sort of cell phone service extender would be helpful.
