点评:Stoneacre looks like it lacks investment in the visitor experience. The ticket desk welcome is friendly enough but there isn't even a self-service drinks machine. The place looks old and there is some blurb about the ceiling in the great hall, but we left wondering what is unique about the place, did the owner have an interesting history, perhaps? Why is National Trust preserving this place among the competition of others - there must be a reason. It takes a bit of an effort to visit here because it is out of the way and only opens on a few days. The guides might have rewarded us with an offer to explain about the place but instead stood around chatting among themselves drinking mugs of tea - while our tongues were hanging out! The best bit was being allowed to come away with a few heritage apples from the enormous crop. The guides didn't know about those either and that could be quite interesting and perhaps even important in preserving the varieties (which on the whole I can tell you were delicious!). Come on NT, make more of what you've got!
