点评:We really enjoyed our visit to these gardens.
Admission is £5 for adults.
There's a very nice cafe as you enter. They have a good range of drinks, snacks, scones and cakes.
Coffee was very nice.
There are a few different areas of the gardens, including a hot house/ green house area with cacti and exotic shrubs from hotter climates.
There's also koi carp.
There were some fabulous begonia plants of various shades
There was areas with lots of bamboo and different trees.
There's also a woodland area .
It's quite a big site and it's a good walk , to explore.
My only negative was there wasn't a lot of information to explain which trees and plants you were looking at.
Some of the trees etc had numbers in front of them.
I'm guessing there must be some kind of map available which gives details of what these numbers represent.
We weren't offered any maps and I didn't see any.
The grounds were really nice and we enjoyed the cafe.
We incorporated our visit with a visit to the Oriental museum. We enjoyed that too. It's free entry but quite difficult to find. It's not signposted well. The only sign I saw on the main road for the Oriental museum was high up and mainly obscured by leaves.
I'd suggest using google maps if you're walking. Once you're back onto the main road from exiting the university estate which contains the botanical gardens it's only about 8 minutes walk away. Look for the Van Mildert building.
