Kurdistan is great, travelling with Ako was the best!

点评：I was a little nervous about travelling to Iraq and Kurdistan as a solo female traveller, so I decided to explore the region with a guide. Looking back, I couldn’t have made a better decision, because that’s how I met Ako! I shared the places I wanted to visit with him, and he put together a great itinerary. He even suggested adding an extra day to explore more of Kurdistan, and I’m so glad I took his advice, which allowed me to visit Zakho, Amedi and Duhok as well 😊
Throughout our travels, I always felt safe and at ease. Ako is an excellent driver who knows his country inside out. He found us affordable hotels, traditional tea houses, delicious baklava shops and great restaurants, always keeping in mind that I don’t eat meat. Together, we explored Kurdistan’s gorgeous nature and fascinating sights, while I also learned a lot about its history, culture and language.
What made the experience extra special were all the little moments along the way. Ako helped me take some beautiful photos, got us some tea or water for along the way and we shared a lot of laughs. His kindness, flexibility and honest enthusiasm made me feel welcome and allowed me to experience Kurdistan in the best way possible.
I would wholeheartedly recommend visiting Kurdistan, and if you’re lucky enough to have Ako as your guide, you’re in very good hands! Ako, thank you for showing me your beautiful country. I wish you all the best, many more tourists and baklava 😉 I really hope our paths will cross again one day, inshallah!
