点评:This is a big museum in a small building. We were pleasantly surprised on arrival to find that the entry fee was only £2.00 instead of the advertised £4.00. I do not know why this was the case, because there was a lot going on.
We were very interested in the lace-making exhibits. To see the complex machinery was fascinating, and there was plenty of information about each exhibit. I really learned a lot about the industry. In the next room was information about other Nottingham companies. I had not realised that so many significant businesses originated here. I love the old clocks. In the courtyard was a really keen carpenter, who showed and explained many traditional carpentry tools, some of which I had encountered in the my school days.
The beam engine is a prime attraction, although we were not there on a steaming day, so it was static. Unfortunately, we ran out of time for more than a quick run through the room with bikes and cars. There is more to come back for. What I particularly liked about this museum is that it is staffed by people who are obviously enthusiasts, knowledgeable about their subjects, and everything was laid out so as to be a real learning experience. If I wanted to learn more about a specific trade, I am sure I would find the complete understanding here.
First class presentation. I should have allowed the whole day for it.
