点评:We last visited the Vandeleur Walled Garden about twenty years ago when it first opened, and we had been meaning to return ever since. A few days ago we finally made it back, and I can honestly say it is probably the best garden of its kind that I have ever visited.
The gardens are immaculately and lovingly maintained, with beautifully designed herbaceous borders, vibrant displays of annuals, and an excellent variety of trees and shrubs. There are plenty of staff on hand, and they are very welcoming and happy to chat and share their knowledge.
There is also a lovely café/restaurant, a well-stocked plant sales area, and a small craft shop, all of which add to the experience.
My only minor criticism concerns the short film shown on site. While it is important to acknowledge the unacceptable actions of the Vandeleurs in evicting tenant farmers in the 1880s, focusing entirely on this aspectis unbalanced. There is so much positive history and development associated with the gardens and Kilrush more broadly that could also be highlighted.
Overall, a fantastic visit — and we will certainly be returning again soon, and often.
