点评:We decided to walk up Mam Tor as the weather was idyllic. We found a route guidance on a local pub “the George” website and it was perfect for directions. We also found a little bakery to make fresh baguettes and fruit to take on our journey. Having started from the visitor centre in Castleton we made our way up via fields, tarmac and little paths until we hit the ridge-line that was paved to the summit. Such a pretty view for a well earned break and a bite to eat. On the way down we decided to walk over to the next peak which was in a westerly direction and then backtrack from that summit and back down to Castleton via Winnats pass. I haven’t hill walked in over 6 years due to injury and health but this was a nice little challenge to get back into it. It’s not hard, a little tiring and view breaks needed but good for anyone that wants a rewarding view with some good exercise on the way. Took 90 mins from the village to get to the top but we were not in a race or a hurry. Highly recommend for a morning or afternoon but the morning was less crowded. There were litter pickers up on the higher ground, such a shame they need to do that but they were doing an excellent job as I didn’t see much litter. Why people can’t take their litter or dog poo bag home baffles me.
