点评:My wife and I stayed at the Myrkdalen Hotel for 6 nights in March 2023, arriving on a Monday. The hotel is in an excellent position with the ski hire shops directly opposite and the main chairlift just 50 m from the boot room exit. Most of our skiing has been in large French resorts but we thought we’d do something different this year (partly because of the relatively poor snow conditions in the Alps and the excellent Myrkdalen snow record). We weren’t disappointed – Myrkdalen is never going to compete with Val d’Isere but there are many advantages: (1) empty slopes and no queues during the week (my wife and I never had to share the 6 man chair with anyone else until the weekend!), (2) immaculately groomed pistes (didn’t see a mogul or any ice all week), (3) excellent mountain café built 3 years ago with, by Norwegian standards, very reasonably priced food and drink and (4) a vast amount of off-piste accessible from almost every piste. The only skiing downsides are a limited range of runs and bad weather options. There’s not much challenging piste skiing – many of the reds would probably be graded blue in France. However, the ski area feels much larger than it appears on the piste map. We had one day of heavy snow – it was pretty unpleasant at the top of the resort so we amused ourselves on the nursery slope and some very short tree runs at the base, before calling it a day. All the other days were mostly brilliant sunshine. The resort gets busy at weekends when folk arrive from Bergen but we never had to wait more than a couple of minutes in a lift queue. There are ski school options but it was a bit strange – there was no obvious ski school presence except for a phone number to call! We never saw any instructors on the slopes, but perhaps it was because we were there in a quiet week in March – maybe different in peak weeks or half term. There are no shops in Myrkdalen except two ski hire outlets. There is a tiny grocery “shop” in the Myrkdalsstovo building but it’s a little more than a few shelves of crisps, snacks, drinks and pot noodles – you’d be hard pressed to buy ingredients for a proper meal. There are also a couple of food outlets/bars. The resort is little known outside Norway (we encountered only one English couple while we were there, but they were staying in a relative’s apartment). No other English folk in the hotel until a larger group arrived the day before we left. Our ski company (Ski Solutions) had arranged taxi transfers for us (via the hotel) from Bergen airport – it takes 2 to 2-1/2 hours depending on the traffic, with spectacular fjord and mountain views en-route.
