A Nice Local Place to Find Peaceful Nature
Oakland Nature Preserve的点评
点评：I visited the Oakland Nature Preserve recently in my free time. It is a peaceful natural area off of Old Highway 50. It is along the shore of Lake Apopka as well.
There are some nice hiking trails through the wooded area. There is a good amount of wildlife. I saw several gopher tortoises while I was there. They are protected in Florida so be sure not to disturb them. I saw several species of birds as well. While I was hiking the trail I did hear a rattle snake rattle in the brush along the trail. I never saw the snake; I believe it was just warning me to keep my distance as I walked by. Do be aware this is a wild place and you need to be alert.
There is a nice educational center with displays and some aquariums with frogs and turtles. There are also restrooms by the educational center. The boardwalk that goes down toward the lake was closed. I am guessing it is because we have had a lot of rain from tropical storms and the lake level is very high.
It is a nice place to visit and I recommend it.
