Express ferry to Block Island for day trip

点评：We took the high speed ferry from New London to Block Island for the day. It was very easy to purchase round trip tickets online. However, when you arrived at the ferry dock, you needed to show your email to get actual boarding tickets. Since we had purchased tickets to and from, we received all our boarding tickets to and from Block Island when we checked in at the ticket counter that morning.
Since it was before the busy season, the ferry waiting line was not very long. We were glad we did not spend the extra money for the priority boarding because it was not needed at all. There was maybe 50 people taking the ferry that day.
The ferry dock was easy to find and you just needed to let the parking attendants know if you were going to Block Island or Long Island and they directed you. There is a cost to parking in the lot as it was $10 for one day and they took cash. There is a little open air concession stand behind the ticket booth where you can get something to eat while you wait to board the ferry. Also, restrooms are inside the building beside the ticket booth.
The ferry had plenty of seating both inside and outside. There was a concession stand inside serving simple food and drinks and restrooms were below deck. It was a beautiful ocean ride to the island and the 90 minutes passed by quickly. The seas were fairly calm, but did get a little rough going full speed in open water. It was not easy to walk around the ship or go to the bathroom during this time. If you get motion sickness easily, you may want to be prepared. One member of our party did wear a motion sickness patch.
Block Island is definitely worth a day visit as it is beautiful! It was before the busy season and we are not sure if we would like the ferry and the island during peak season. It was great during the first part of June!
