Do it! Unparalleled, beautiful nature and enjoyable ride

点评：We just finished cycling Rallarvegen. It was absolutely beautiful! The views were unbelievable and the experience is unlike anything I’ve ever done. The ride was manageable— definitely some hills that were hard, especially as someone who doesn’t bike often— but overall, it’s not too much on any given day. I even saw a couple of kids (maybe age 12?) accomplish it. We split the journey up over three days— which worked in our favor, because we could plan our rides around the weather a bit. (This part of the country often has rain. While we brought rain pants, rain jackets, etc, we wound up not needing it on our rides each day!) Our itinerary involved a train from Oslo to Haugastøl, where we spent the night at the same place we rented bikes. It’s spare lodging but had wonderful food. The next morning we biked from Haugastøl to Finse— took less than 4 hours with lots of stops. Finse is where scenes from Empire Strikes Back were filmed and there’s a beautiful glacier there (for now 😬). In Finse, people can stay in DNT (where we enjoyed afternoon waffles) or Hotel Finse 1222 (fancy hotel). Most people bike from Finse all the way to Flåm, which is definitely manageable. We instead split it up and stayed in Vatnahalsen. The ride from Finse there was likely my favorite section— unbelievable views, very few people, and just incredible. Our final section was the shortest— started with a crazy descent and then just an easy ride into Flåm. Flåm, while pretty, was overwhelmingly crowded/touristy because a cruise was in town. We enjoyed some beers and then a boat ride to Gudvangen and then headed back towards a train for Oslo.
