I have visited this garden for several decades with my late wife the painter and wood engraver Betty Pennell who created paintings drawings and engravings of many famous gardens in the UK and Provence. We were regular visitors to Hergest Croft and our gardens have always been filled with plants and trees, in particular Azaleas Clematis and Rhododendrons recommended by the Head Gardener Stephen Lloyd The other gardens of note in Herefordshire are owned by the National Trust. Berrington Hall The Weir garden and Croft Castle where a walled garden has been transformed from an old apple orchard into a wonderful place for a lover of plants are well worth a visit. However the garden we loved the most is Hergest Croft the woodland areas are magnificent with the Azalea Garden, Maple Grove and walks to Park Wood every detail of paving and rockery is faultless and in the Kitchen Garden the rose garden and the borders between old apple trees are wonderfully planted. Finally Maples Tearoom is outstanding the staff are very welcoming and provide perfect tea and cakes or lunches at a surprisingly reasonable cost,
