点评:This was one of the worst Pantomimes I’ve ever seen!
We watched Peter Pan at the Theatre Royal in Nottingham on December 30, 2024. We booked our tickets a few weeks before the show and ended up with front-row seats in the upper circle, which provided a great view. We have seen the pantomime at the Theatre Royal numerous times before Covid, so we were really looking forward to experiencing it again, as it is usually fantastic. However, this time, the pantomime was disappointing!
The panto didn't really make us laugh and felt like it was put together at the last minute. Gok Wan just wasn’t funny. There were barely any laughs when he was on stage. Steve Hewlett was a bit funny but his performance with the ventriloquist dolls went on for too long, we then started to lose interest as not much was happening. We noticed that during much of the show, the actors stood at the front corners of the stage, just making facial expressions instead of performing their own parts or just leaving the stage. This made us question how much time was actually spent planning the show.
The pantomime was only worth watching for Paul Chuckle, but sadly he didn’t have a big role. We’ve seen Paul in the pantomime several times, and he never disappoints; he is always great!
It was somewhat disappointing that the pantomime didn't include the performance of the "12 Days of Christmas." We always look forward to seeing it at every pantomime we watch the theatre Royal’s panto. When we used to visit every year, the "12 Days of Christmas" was the highlight of the Nottingham panto. The panto also didn’t have a Dame, which could have made it slightly funnier and would have made it feel more like a normal panto.
We felt that we wasted a lot of our time attending this show. We traveled for 4 hours from Northumberland, expecting it to be amazing like the previous pantomimes at Nottingham Theatre Royal, but it was far from our expectations!
I would not recommend this pantomime to anyone. I'm unsure if other pantomimes at the Nottingham theater Royal since Covid have been this poor, but we definitely won’t be returning to watch another!
