Lack of open slopes

点评：We are a family of five who recently went on a ski holiday to Geilo from December 29, 2024, to January 5, 2025. We had been particularly looking forward to the trip, especially after learning that there was 80 cm of snow prior to our departure. Unfortunately, upon arrival, we were disappointed to find that less than half of the slopes were open. During the first 2–3 days, the temperature was between -5 and -7 degrees Celsius, yet no artificial snow was produced.
On the second and third days, 40–50 cm of fresh snow fell, but still, no additional slopes were opened. We also observed that the few chairlifts that were in operation were opened delayed in the morning, and we experienced nearly an entire day when only a couple of drag lifts were running.
It is entirely normal to receive a reduction in lift pass prices if the ski resort has failed to open a primary part of the area despite plenty of snow. We asked SkiGeilo about this, but they dismissed it with the following response:
"During the early season, when we cannot deliver a fully operational ski resort, we offer a 35% discount on lift passes. This policy remains in place until we have opened a significant percentage of our slopes and lifts."
We find it surprising that one cannot expect a reduction in lift pass prices when less than half of the area is open, although there being an abundance of snow. Despite that the resort are refering to, that you will get a price reduction if a significant percent of slopes and lift are not open.
The ski area and the generel service was fine.
