点评:The content of this museum is excellent. If you take the time to read the panels that go along with the artifacts you learn a lot about the Blackfeet Tribe and their cultural traditions and artistic practices.
The museum has an excellent collection of impressive and educational artifacts for a small museum. My 8 year old son was captivated and read many of the labels himself. He is a math kid and not really interested in history, so this speaks to the impressive nature of the artifacts and the story they tell.
There is a video that plays every so often that my husband found interesting but my son and I were more caught up in the dioramas.
The day we visited there were Blackfeet artists demonstrating their skills. My son, who loves art, was very much interested in hearing from them.
As a historian, I had prepared my son prior to our visit on the long history of mistreatment of the original inhabitants of this land faced and how it had been stolen from them over the years through deceptive treaties or by force, & the artists shared with us their own tribes’ history of loss by the hands of our government. It was an eye- opening experience for us both.
This is a wonderful museum with excellent artifacts and unique opportunities to engage with living historians and artisans at work.
I would have rated it five stars but they do not allow anyone to use their restroom which is located in a prominent public area of the museum. A sign on the door where you pay admission says, “No public restroom. Do not even ask.” It is understood that this includes visitors who pay. I found that a little problematic for parents with children or even elderly visitors. The museum is in the middle of nowhere and the local businesses had signs that restroom were for customers only so when my son had an unexpected “issue”, we had to leave, and go buy something at a gas station so he could use a rather dirty restroom. So be sure & use the restroom prior to entering the museum.
