点评:When planning this visit I saw no reference online to there being a charge to enter. It's a 25 minute walk from the city centre and as you get to Port Vauban you start to see information boards telling you the entry times, dates and months when it's open. There's nothing on any of these boards that mention the 5€ entrance fee. Only when you have completed the 25 minute walk and reach the entrance is there the exact same boards at the doorway but now stating the entrance fee. This in my opinion is an absolute con that's designed to make you pay the entrance fee as you're opinion would naturally be I'm now not turning back without entering. However, it's possible to walk all the way around the fort and see its very well preserved walls that are around 50' high and the 4 corners that all have pointed triangular shaped features that look like the front of a ship. Also, when returning back towards the port, there's a gate on the left which enters you into a football pitch and running track where you can see the fabulous white stone soldier that stands in front of the fort. There's also great vantage points around the port to see the fort perched high into the hillside.
