Gadebridge Park的点评
点评：Large and well maintained town park - with 32 hectares to explore. The main feature of the park is the River Gade. In recent years, work has been done to improve the rivers' ecology - restoring it to a more natural state. You can already see improvements in the parts that have been re-landscaped - with more fish, dragonflies and birdlife. In late spring its full of birdsong - as blackcaps, greenfinches and song thrush vie for attention.
Many fine trees date from its time as a country house, owned by the wealthy Paston Cooper family. The white bridge dates back to about 1840 when the area was part of the Gadebridge House estate. With grade II listing by Historic England, the bridge in its design resembling bamboo, following Chinese style popular at the time.
More recent additions to the garden provide space for reflection - including a Covid Memorial garden; and a garden to remember children still born.
May is a busy month for the gardeners, with the walled garden closed to allow the gardeners to plant 1000s of begonias and other bedding plants. These make a fantastically colourful display through the summer. For families there is a splash park, and nearby a kiosk selling drinks and snack and toilets. It is on the edge of the old town, which has a wide range of cafes and more public toilets. On Fridays there is a local market with food and craft stalls. If you follow the river Gade into the New Town, you can also enjoy the restored water gardens.
