点评:The bad news is that the camp sites are not real good. Very little privacy, few trees, and the standard sites are really close to the park office and its parking lot. And beware of the sites with cottonwoods (see below). Not much of a campaign out feel. We like to hike, and the Old Settlers trail is very nice. We were there for the spring wildflowers, and it was quite a show. Trilliums everywhere, and lots else. There are a number of viewpoints on the ridge tops of the trails, but with all of the leafing out there wasn't much in the way of views. That's for a different season. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the trails are horse trails. Hiking is allowed, and the two we hiked have a lot going to for them (red and purple), and I strongly recommend trying them. But you'd better keep your head down so you can avoid the horse...evidence. That part of the hike really kind of sucks. Why they give the horse people priority, without any cleanup requirement, seems grossly unfair and a slap in the face. So it's a bit of a mixed bag.
So, in sum, really subpar camp sites, some really good hiking -- with some compromises. Spring is a great time to go. I'm giving it four stars because of the spring wildflowers and the trails.
**And stay away from sites 1 and 3 in May. The cottonwood trees dump gummy, resinous bud scales all over the sites and make them unusable. The stuff gets all over your shoes, your dog's paw pads, and everything else.
