点评:Awful experience. Didn’t make a reservation. Had been raining hours before and rain had just stopped so chances of the outside seating being dry were slim. As we walked up to the scruffy looking man at the door he asked us for id. My partner is 60 and I’m 48. We certainly do not look underaged. And as biased as this might sound we don’t look like a typical criminal or trouble makers. We just wanted to celebrate our engagement (that happened earlier in the day) with a drink in what looked like a beautiful setting in the middle of Manhattan. But we reciprocated with his request and showed him our legal UK photo id Drivers License, to which he said, ‘I can’t scan that’.
I’m sorry ‘what?’
I said we don’t walk around the streets of New York carrying our passports, which by the way, are not ‘scannable’. He argued that yes passports are scannable. To which my thoughts were that no single beverage establishment is going to ‘scan’ my passport or photo id to take what ever information they want to do with whatever they want without an explanation.
We then proceeded to the bar next door to indulge in chips and beer on street level with 5 star customer service.
Avoid 230 5th if you prefer best customer service and don’t want to be made to ferl like a criminal- disgusting service.
