Sicily - an extraordinary week

点评：I've just done (October) the Sicily tour, organised by Italia Sweet Italia with a Sicilian agent Addiopizzo Travel.
We had a winning team with Francesco, Elena, and Tina, our Tour Leader, Tour Guide, and Driver, respectively. The three of them are knowledgeable, friendly, and very accommodating.
Francesco was with us for the whole time. He is a mine of information, there wasn't a question he couldn't answer. I felt we got a lot of 'insider' knowledge from him. He is passionate about Sicily, its history, culture, the food, and its traditions.
Elena, too, is passionate about the history, art, and architecture of Palermo, Monreale and Cefalu. She is an extraordinary guide.
All the day trips were wonderful, although we were unable to visit the nature reserve because it was closed after a devastating fire. The tour continued seamlessly, however, and the time was replaced with a lovely visit to a village above the sea, Scopello.
I was especially taken by our afternoon spent with a group of activists of the No Mafia group. The virtual reality session was extraordinary. I was moved to tears by it; this, and the film, and talking to Antonio who was a witness to the devastation of the bomb that killed Judge Falcone, was an experience I'll never forget. I'm in awe of this group that are a driving force against the mafia in Sicily.
I was thrilled, too, to learn more about another Italian grape I love - Nero d'Avola. We had a wonderful tasting at Natalia's farm of her Nero d'Avola wines, and we were introduced to her new endeavour - Vinegar made from the same grapes. Fantastic and delicious.
My special thanks go to Francesco who took wonderful care of me after my accident on day 4. He stayed with me in the hospital, and arranged for Tina to pick us up to meet the rest of the group who were on the guided tour of Segesta.
We all got on very well in the group, we took loads of photos, ate and drank well.
