点评:My husband and I did the full day rail cart adventure to Whangamomona. The crew were amazing, very knowledgable about the history of the area. Great to hear about the boom/bust cycle of the small towns and the pioneering spirit of the settlers.
The rail carts are easy to operate. The tour is good for those less mobile as you travel through the country (much of it pastoral) slowly, no walking required. While it was summer, definately heed the advice of the website and take a thick jacket/warm clothes - the tunnels are 8 degrees c.
The return by bus is very winding and bumpy. You can get a car shuffle and continue your journey on - much better if you don't need to get back to Taumaranui.
It is a long day sitting - would recommend either the half day/jet ski combo if you are more active. Also there is no coffee other than sachet until Whangamomona, so fuel up at Taumaranui before leaving.
