Maroondah Reservoir Park的点评
点评：Four years ago I wrote a scathing review of Maroondah Park... yesterday for New Years Day we returned to our usual spot.
First, the good.
New stainless barbecues. Nowhere enough for the demand, but new. Two new benches and seats under the sole gazebo. One gazebo. inadequate, but new.
The bad: The roads within the park are like jungle treks which swallow your car's suspension. Massive depressions and potholes every couple of metres. Most are unpaved, but even the paved have potholes. Much, much worse by the year. My car bottomed out front and back and I'm afraid to see the damage.
Toilets: where we were, they were closed for some reason. New Year's Day, hundreds of visitors, and they were closed. The nearest quite a walk away to the main car park in the hot sun.
And the main block women's toilet had ONE basin. The tap dispensed water only while the button was held down and with uncomfortable force (my wife tells me), so you can't rub hands together. No soap. Unhygienic. No hand drying facilities.
No water at the barbecues -- for wiping down the bird poop on the tables and seats, for cleaning the barbecue, for washing hands. We bring our own.
Main carpark is unpaved, and so no parking bays or aisles are marked. Carks were parked higgeldy piggeldy and you'd drive down a narrow "row" looking for a spot, only to come to a dead end and have to reverse out all the way back hoping no other car was following behind.
The grassy areas hadn't been mowed. Not only uncomfortable to walk through, but an eyesore too.
New Year is probably the busiest for the park --- whey aren't these shortcomings addressed beforehand in readiness? Is it mismanagement? Is it lack of State Government funds? Where is the $84 parks levy in our water rates going?
Why is this otherwise beautiful park so neglected. Every year we brace for something to be wrong, to the point where we will now consider not going there altogether.
