Ridge track is open, but not along the valley

点评：We were very lucky to be able to walk the Ridge track to see the Putangirua Pinnacles - all the on-line sources we consulted had suggested the track was closed but a visit to the I-site centre in Martinborough set us right. We were (correctly) told the path along the ridge was open but the one along the river was still closed. We still found the track challenging, especially the first bit which is along the valley and involves a lot of boulders and a couple of creek crossings. Very glad we each had a walking pole.
The walk through the forest along the ridge was very pleasant and not too onerous. However, I was a little disappointed at the trail's end and the lookout, as I formed the view that the surrouding vegetation had grown a fair bit since the lookout was built, obscuring a more complete view of the Pinnacles.
The view is good, but I suspect it is much more spectacular when approaching from the river.
