One of the best day trips you can do in Gotland

点评：Words can't describe how amazing this experience was! Staying in Visby without a car, I wasn't really sure how manageable this would be, but it turned out to be quite easy: you just take the bus nr. 10 from Visby bus station to Klintehamn, walk to the harbour and take the ferry boat from there. One can book the ferry trip in advance (recommended) or get the tickets on the spot. The ferry ride takes about half an hour and after that you get into a totally different world.
After the arrival, the superfriendly staff of Stora Karlsö gave us a very warm welcome, explained all the rules valid on the island and invited us for the guided tour (included in the ferry ticket price!) that started about 40 minutes later. I strongly recommend that one - the place is magical, but with the guidance, you get a much deeper insight and understanding of it.
Our guide Johaness, was really knowledgeable and fun and I learnt tons of things about the history of this nature reserve and about the various bird and plant species that can be seen here. We did a circle around the island, stopping multiple times to admire the bird colonies, the lighthouse (under construction) and the peace of this place.
After the tour, you get about 1,5 hour "free" time, that you can spend as you please - revisiting sime of the bird watching stops, walking to other nearby places, visiting the museum or having a meal in the on-site restaurant. After that, the ferry transports you back to Klintehamn.
If you are around and have a day to spare, don't hesitate to set out on this trip - you won't regret it!
