点评：This was my first stop in Kampala as I did a tour of the city. I had done no research, so everything was a surprise to me. You don’t actually get to go in the palace. And the main thing that you get to see is the torture chambers of Idi Amin. This is not something I needed to see. I appreciate that we need to commemorate those events and for those who are interested in such things than it’s worth visiting. My tour guide was August, I believe, and after we visited the torture chambers, he took me to a covered structure where he demonstrated how bark cloth is made, and then I had an opportunity to buy some artwork made from bark cloth.I was a bit discombobulated from the torture chamber, but when I went back and did research, I found that bark cloth is a UNESCO intangible heritage material. The artwork was my favorite purchase of my entire trip. August did an excellent job of explaining the history of the king, the clans and the history of palace.
I encourage you to take cash with you, not just for the tips that are expected, but also so that you may purchase this unique item. Because I loved buying that artwork, I would say this is worth a visit.
Everyone I encountered in Uganda had no problems taking US money. Do make sure that the smaller bills are newer and in good shape.
