点评:Çatalhöyük was a huge surprise. Despite being one of the world's earliest known cities, dating from roughly 7100 to 5500 BC, it remains relatively unknown and there were very few visitors. If you're interested in history, however, it is absolutely worth the visit. The entrance fee is only 5 euros.
The site consists of three parts: the museum, the model houses, and the excavation area. The museum is small but excellent, providing a tremendous amount of information about daily life in Neolithic Çatalhöyük. Most exhibits rely on audio presentations that are in Turkish, but they include English subtitles and are easy to follow.
The residents lived in mud-brick homes with entrances through the roof, creating a remarkably unique urban layout.
The south excavation area is currently closed to the public, but the north excavation site remains open and is fascinating to explore.
For those staying in Konya, there is a convenient shuttle that departs from the city center at 1:00 p.m. daily (1:45 p.m. on Fridays), except Mondays. You have about two hours at the site before returning to Konya by approximately 4:30 p.m.
Overall, Çatalhöyük is a surprisingly engaging and well-presented archaeological site that deserves far more attention than it receives.
