Visiting Eskdale Mill was like stepping back in time to one of the hidden gems of the Lake District. Nestled in the lovely village of Boot, the mill is full of character, history, and charm. It’s the last working water-powered corn mill in the region, and you really get a sense of its importance over the centuries as you wander through the old machinery and learn how grain was once ground here.
What I loved most was how well it’s been looked after – you can see the passion and dedication of the people who keep the history alive. The exhibits are hands-on and engaging, and it feels like more than just a museum, it’s a living piece of heritage.
The setting is gorgeous too, with the river flowing beside the buildings, leafy paths nearby, and the whole place tucked away like a secret waiting to be found. It’s peaceful, fascinating, and makes for a really rewarding stop in Eskdale.
If you’re exploring the valley, don’t miss it – a true little treasure. Also 100% dog friendly.
