Rotokare Scenic Reserve & Sanctuary的点评
点评：Have visited three times in the past few weeks. Once during the day: superb, with a wide variety of native birds. The other two visits were at night, armed with red torches and hoping to see brown kiwis. No luck with this despite a total of five hours looking. Kiwis obviously have good hearing and must have heard our parties of four and (other visit) seven approaching along the largely small gravel (and thus crunchy under foot) paths. We were attempting to be as quiet as possible, with no talking - even from our usually very vocal grandchildren.
Why are the paths gravelled? Where are the hides?
I feel a bit 'ungrateful' criticising such a superb idea as this fenced reserve, which is rescuing native species from the depredations of the predator species introduced into NZ. However, with little cost (mulched paths and a couple of hides) it could be so much better for the visitor.
