点评:Visited 2025 ceramics biennial with friends. First impression, difficult to find via satnav, but eventually found a car park nearby and walked. There is a small carpark but seemed full of building contractors’ vehicles.
Once inside the Spode Museum, our slightly tricky journey was immediately forgotten. We were warmly welcomed and directed through the old factory site. It is amazing, such a sense of industrial history and the people who worked there. Also the tea room is highly recommended.
The ceramics exhibitions occupy several spaces, two of them huge. The work is very fine, beautiful, moving, tantalising and interesting by turns. Video accompaniments are absolutely wonderful and give a real insight into the artists’ process and inspirations. There is also an hour’s worth of short videos from a range of cultural viewpoints, well worth sitting down and absorbing. There is a great space for children to get involved with creating rammed earth - very fun.
The volunteers are knowledgeable and enthusiastic, keen to engage. This is a wonderful showcase for Stoke. We stayed from 12-4pm, they had to chuck us out in the end!
