Eat, Pray, Love… in the Gobi Desert

点评：We just finished our eight-day adventure through the Gobi Desert, and honestly, it was one of those trips that stays with you long after you’re home. Our guide, Odka, was incredible. You could tell right away how knowledgeable she was — her education and love for her country really came through in everything she shared with us. But beyond that, she’s just a wonderful person. Warm, thoughtful, and always making sure we were comfortable and happy. It felt like traveling with a good friend.
And then there was our driver, Batta — what a legend. The roads out there can be rough (lots of potholes and bumpy stretches), but he handled them like a pro. We joked that he was a pothole-dodging machine. I’m still amazed at how smoothly he got us from place to place.
The trip itself felt like a reset for the soul. Yes, some of the drives were long, but staring out at those endless, wild grasslands was strangely peaceful. It gave us this rare chance to slow down, disconnect, and just be in the moment. I kept thinking to myself, this would be the perfect backdrop for the next Eat, Pray, Love story.
The ger camps we stayed in were all different, which made it fun. Our family of four — with a 12-year-old and 9-year-old — shared a ger, and it worked out great. The shared bathrooms were clean, and every camp had hot showers, which, for a family that loves a good rough-it trip, felt like pure luxury.
All in all, this was a memorable trip we will never forget. Mongolia is such a special place, and the people we met made it even better. If you’re looking for a trip that’ll leave you feeling grounded, inspired, and a little bit changed, this is it.
