Amazing bird life and forest regeneration on this island

点评：Fabulous 2 night stay in the bunkhouse on Tiri. Large well appointed kitchen diner led to lots of conversations and hints and tips from other adventurers. Bunk rooms were small clean and more than adequate. Shared bathroom was clean and tidy.
Tracks were great although signposting needed improvement/additions. Tracks varied from concrete, grass, forest floor, and scoria. Lots of steps on kawerau track may make this an issue for strollers. Heaps of different plants - a few were labeled but more labeling would have been helpful.
Bird life was amazing and had lots of birds happy to be within 1 metre of us. Saw all the birds on the bunkhouse house poster including takahe, kiwi, tui, saddlebacks, kereru, stitchbids, bellbirds, penguins, petrel, whiteheads, robin and kokahko etc.
Thoroughly recommend. If I was going again I'd take a good red light torch, night vision glasses, a thermos, a rubbish bag, and a small plant ID book.
