A Pure Nature Haven Worth Every Step

点评：Tiritiri Matangi Island is a breathtaking sanctuary for New Zealand's rare native birds.
My husband and I were fortunate to visit this pristine island and even more blessed to meet Mr. Neal, a dedicated volunteer who guides here twice a week. Despite being older than us, his energetic strides effortlessly led us through the peaceful forest paths.
Along the way, we listened to the magical, synthesizer-like songs of bellbirds and spotted incredible wildlife: tui, friendly little fairy fantails, robins, the charming takahe, wood pigeons, hīhī… too many to list. Mr. Neal shared a lovely Maori meaning for hīhī—"sunshine"—inspired by the bright yellow stripes on their feathers.
Huge thanks to Mr. Neal for his wonderful guidance and to all the volunteers whose tireless conservation work keeps this paradise thriving. A must-visit for any nature lover!
