点评:The Musée Ahmed Zabana was built by the French to celebrate 100 years of colonialism and it is now named after an Algerian resistance hero Ahmed Zabana who was guillotined by the French authorities. The collection of Roman mosaics and coins is impressive and the building itself is an architectural gem built in the 1930's it is art deco and the symmetry and design is very appealing.
On the top floor there is a very important collection of regional artisan artifacts such as jewelry from the Kabylie region, carpets from the Sahara and the rich costumes worn by the Oranaise. It does also have a collection of taxidermy and butterflies but that's not something that interests me.
The director and his team who were so kind in showing me around this eclectic museum. Thankfully independent Algeria has been able to save a lot of it's art collections since independence. It is also sad that there does not seem to be much funding for the restoration of paintings. I'm sure in time this will happen.
