New ownership ended what was a good thing
Cascade Welcome Center的点评
点评：We had been coming to Cascade for years. This is the first time that we have been here since it was purchased by the ADK mountain club.
Notably one of the few ‘improvements’ they made was to remove one of the 2 toilets in the ladies room and to turn it into a single ‘all genders’ restroom. I did not check what used to be the men’s room for similar ‘improvements. There is still an exposed toilet flange on the floor, some significant water damage to the wall and it appears that the bathroom has not been cleaned since they took over. The bathroom is worse than most gas station bathrooms.
The bar is closed. There is no longer food. There are fake candles in the fireplace.
The common areas are filthy.
There is still a shop with a friendly staff. The staff would have 4* on their own because though not super knowledgeable they were friendly and attentive.
The selection is much more limited in terms equipment and there is no longer ski clothing.
The trails are pretty rough despite the 2ft base and though are tracked in some places they are clearly not maintained with the same regularity.
I wouldn’t come here again.
As an alternative try Scott’s Cobble lake placid or Dewey Mountain Saranac lake. Both Scott’s Cobble and Dewey have rentals. They have clean bathrooms or locker rooms Dewey has a wax room and a kitchenette for visitors use. Scott’s cobble has an outdoor fire pit and a cafe that is sometimes open. The Vic also has a ski shop and rentals but they recently got a bunch of state money and the new facility is quite commercial and impersonal.
