The takahe and kiwi house our highlights
Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre的点评
点评：Without taking away from the brilliant dedicated conservation work being done at Pukaha wildlife centre, including by many volunteers, but also after having previously visited Zealandia and Bushy Park, we were a little disappointed with our visit here.
For us, the highlight of our visit were the takahes, going about their regular foraging business in a very relaxed manner. Their spacious and sunny enclosure is within easy view of the cafe.
Also liked our visit to the kiwi house, where we had an excellent group talk by a ranger and saw a number of kiwis through the gloom in both enclosures, including the very rare albino kiwi (and its progeny). The mass of long-finned eels or tuna seemingly sunnining themselves in their pond were also fun to see, as were the tuatara and kakas (in a cage). But we could not spot other bird species in the other cages we walked past, or at one or two bird feeders next to the track, or even in the walk-in aviary. That was disappointing.
The cafe here is good: reasonable coffee, reasonable prices, plus an nice outlook.
While a bit disappointed, we still enjoyed our visit and would visit again.
