点评:I visited Pellerina Park through a guided excursion.
The rather in-depth visit took up a full morning and also included several areas adjacent to the Park. Among them was the former Thyssenkrupp industrial area, abandoned after a terrible explosion that devastated the steelworks in 2007 and killed seven workers; the area is still awaiting a new use.
The Park is a significant green lung for the city of Turin, widely used by the population for sports and recreation. Our excursion allowed us to deepen our understanding of it, making us aware, for example, that it was once entirely agricultural land, cultivated using the traditional local system of "cascine" (farms cultivated by non-owner farmers). Our attention was also drawn to the fact that the Dora Riparia River, which flows through the entire Park, has undergone significant artificial changes to its course: for example, in the 1930s, a meander was cut, which previously reached north to occupy the course of today's Corso Regina Margherita.
Also of interest was the story of the natural pool created starting in 1958 by diverting the waters of the Dora River into a basin immediately east of the current "Pescaia della Pellerina." The diversion was later blocked because the river waters were unhygienic, and the former pool has now been converted to other recreational facilities.
Overall, the visit was highly enjoyable, allowing participants to delve into both the naturalistic and social history of the area, and through these, to better understand the recent and less recent history of Turin.
