More than just military history, there is a real human story here
Ligne Maginot - Ouvrage De La Ferté的点评
点评：I had arranged a group visit for a bunch of Morgan owners to the Ardennes, and whilst doing my research I realised that the Maginot Line - which I was aware of but not in any detail - was still in existence. So I arranged a tour of the area around Sedan (through Tucker Tours, highly recommended) and in the afternoon we came to La Ferté. Our guide for the afternoon was Roger Schmidt, a complete expert on the Maginot Line and this fort in particular, and he took us round in what turned out to be a thoroughly engaging and moving experience.
Roger was brilliant; I was concerned that some people might not be as fascinated with the place as I was, but he brought it to life by focusing on the human aspects as well as the amazing technology. My wife was so moved by the visit that she purchased two books about La Ferté, and I bought a book about the Maginot Line on my return to England. Whilst La Ferté would be interesting anyway, Roger's knowledge and insightful explanations made a huge difference to our understanding and appreciation not only of the site but also the background to the events.
I was so impressed by the whole experience that I am planning more group visits for the future. I was promised that the trip would be good even for those with little interest in military history, and that certainly proved to be the case. I would like to thank Roger and his colleague Richard for introducing us to the Maginot Line, clearing up some misconceptions and historical inaccuracies, and I can recommend this experience without reservation
